What to avoid when submitting to the search
engines
If you over-submit to the search engines,
you'll be viewed as a search engine spammer.
And that, of course, is b-a-d. These pages
should help you avoid offending the search
engine protocols:

Submitting your site to the search engines
Now, here are the "Add URL" submission links.
You can save yourself time by knowing that
AllTheWeb, Google, Lycos and BigLocate all
spider your site, so just submit your home
page (eg, index.html or default.htm) and let
their robots explore your site by following
your links.
1) Major free spidering search engines
Submitting your home page is sufficient to
these, because these engines "spider"
your site. Their computers "crawl"
along the links you provide them.

LookSmart now charges $299, so I was
interested to find there's a "backdoor" into
LookSmart - through Zeal. It's only open to
non-commercial sites, as this article in RankWrite
explains. But if you're in a hurry, come back
later... this takes time. LookSmart says their
data is used by AltaVista, IWon, CNN, Time
Warner, Prodigy, and Juno.

Content is king?
Now, what content did you submit? That's
very important too. When they say content
is king, that doesnt mean one of those huge
500 page websites with the 'all about everything'
flavour. Once maybe, but not now.
One of the most significant current trends
among the big earners is their use of mini
sites. More particularly, their use of mininets
(networks of inter-connected minisites).
